Hey how have you been ? I have a question why is anime and manga looked down upon in Japan ? I hear there is a stigma toward anime

I would say that it's up to that person.
The prime minister of Japan loves manga.

But it's true that there're some people who can't distinguish between the real world and anime world.(Most of them is men who like hentai.)
And finally they commit an atrocious crime to women.
The case like this is sometimes broadcasted on TV news.

So, there're many people that look down upon manga and anime as much as people that love them.

...It's just my opinion.
I don't know the truth because I'm not an expert of this problem.

Hm well I think given the power of shame in Japanese society I think Reputation matters much in Japan so the assocation with the scary otaku may lead to widespread fear.

... lol japanese culture is very indirect and the power of association . Well see that was one of the difficult part of my project . when I would talk to people from Japan I didn't mention anime or manga because lol.. I think they would look at me strangely I would mention "Art" or more generic way of talking about animation I would mention Disney and Only speak of Miyazaki lol...

Rofl Pretty sure I tend to run into the ones who do not like Anime too often
